The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Frustration About Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying all users about the change.
Online Platforms Response
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to review their products and manually change the size when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Service Background
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
